Kinderrechte verteidigen! Europäische Strategien gegen rechtspopulistische und rechtsextremistische Narrative und Angriffe auf die Zivilgesellschaft

27. November 2025, 9.00 Uhr -11.00 Uhr - Gemeinsame Online-Fachveranstaltung der Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Kinder- und Jugendhilfe - AGJ und der National Coalition Deutschland – Netzwerk zur Umsetzung der UN-Kinderrechtskonvention.
In vielen europäischen Ländern, auch in Deutschland, haben rechtspopulistische und rechtsextremistische Akteure spürbaren gesellschaftlichen und politischen Einfluss gewonnen. Die politischen Debatten und öffentlichen Diskurse verändern sich tiefgreifend. Kinderrechte geraten dabei zunehmend unter Druck: Statt die in der UN-Kinderrechtskonvention verankerten individuellen Rechte jedes Kindes anzuerkennen, wird Kindheit zunehmend im Sinne nationalistischer, identitärer und bevölkerungspolitischer Zielsetzungen instrumentalisiert.
Mit dieser Veranstaltung möchten die Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Kinder- und Jugendhilfe – AGJ und die National Coalition Deutschland auf diese Entwicklungen aufmerksam machen und ihre Auswirkungen auf Kinderrechte und Kinderrechtsarbeit in Europa adressieren. Im ersten Teil der Veranstaltung werden Strategien, aktuelle Diskursverschiebungen und Anti-Rights-Bewegungen aus deutscher und europäischer Perspektive analysiert sowie ihre Auswirkungen auf die Verwirklichung von Kinderrechten beleuchtet. Anschließend kommen Vertreter*innen aus europäischen Institutionen zu Wort: Vorgestellt werden die geplante Europäische Beobachtungsstelle für Kinderrechte sowie Ansätze und Unterstützungsinstrumente der Jugendabteilung des Europarats zur Stärkung junger Zivilgesellschaft in Europa.
Im dritten Teil öffnen wir den Raum für ein gemeinsames Gespräch mit allen Gästen: Welche Strategien können Fachkräfte, Organisationen und Institutionen entwickeln, um Kinderrechte und demokratische Räume wirksam zu stärken? Wo liegen Handlungsspielräume – und wie können wir sie gemeinsam nutzen?
Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an Fachkräfte der Kinder- und Jugendhilfe, Mitarbeitende aus Verwaltung und Politik sowie an Vertreter*innen der Zivilgesellschaft, die Kinderrechte in einem herausfordernden gesellschaftlichen Klima aktiv umsetzen und schützen möchten.

Defending Children’s Rights!
27 November 2025, 9:00–11:00 (CET) - Joint online Expert Forum of the Child and Youth Welfare Association - AGJ and the National Coalition Germany – Network for the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
In many European countries, including Germany, right-wing populist and right-wing extremist actors have already gained significant societal and political influence. Political debates and public discourses are undergoing profound shifts. Children’s rights are under increasing pressure: rather than recognising the individual rights of every child as enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, “childhood” is increasingly instrumentalised for nationalist, identitarian or population-policy agendas.
With this event, the Child and Youth Welfare Association – AGJ and the National Coalition Germany aim to draw attention to these developments and to address their impact on children’s rights and on child rights work across Europe. In the first part of the event, strategies, current shifts in discourse and anti-rights movements will be analysed from both German and European perspectives, along with their effects on the realisation of children’s rights. This will be followed by contributions from representatives of European institutions. The planned European Child Rights Observatory will be introduced, as well as approaches and support instruments of the Council of Europe’s Youth Department aimed at strengthening young civil society across Europe.
In the third part, we will open space for a joint conversation with all contributors. Which strategies can practitioners, organisations and institutions develop to effectively strengthen children’s rights and democratic spaces? Where do we have agency – and how can we make use of it together?
The event is aimed at professionals in child and youth services, staff working in public administration and policy, and representatives of civil society who seek to actively realise and protect children’s rights in a challenging societal climate.
